BoSox Favored to Silence Yankees in Second Straight Game

Saturday’s matchup between the Yankees and Red Sox will feature a battle between the best young slugger in baseball and one of the game’s greatest strikeout artists when Aaron Judge steps into the batter’s box to face Chris Sale (11-4, 2.75 ERA). The southpaw got the best of the rook in their only previous meeting, ringing him up twice in two at-bats. Since that April 27 matchup, though, Judge has become the major’s most prodigious hitter and he’ll be keen to take his fellow all-star to the yard.

SHARK BITES
  • The Red Sox are 9-4 SU in their last 13 home games against the Yankees.
  • The Yankees are 1-3 SU in Luis Severino’s 4 career starts against the Red Sox.
  • Chris Sale has limited opposing lineups to a .187 batting average in 8 home starts.

Boston opened as a massive fave for the second of a four-game weekend set and that probably has a lot to do with the pitching matchup. Yankees starter Luis Severino (5-4, 3.54 ERA) has been a much-improved player this year but he’s given up three or more runs in four of his last five starts and he’s been absolutely taken to task in day games with an earned run average of 5.82 in four starts with the sun still up.

Sev has been a little better on the road than at home but the difference is not nearly enough to give the Yankees the edge at the starting pitching position tonight.

Sale has taken the hill against the Yanks as a part of the Crimson Hose just once so far and he took a hard-luck loss in the outing, allowing two runs in eight innings of work. He’ll hope for some run support today from one of the best-hitting lineups in the bigs.
