Sportsbook Odds

The Dodgers opened as a sizable favorite at -196 on the moneyline while the visiting Padres are getting +145. The total was set at 8.5 runs with the OVER going 4-1 in San Diego’s last five games. Los Angeles has dominated this matchup over the last few seasons, winning 15 of the last 17 meetings against San Diego – a clear nod to the hosts for your Padres vs Dodgers prediction.

Starting Pitchers

Andrew Heaney (1-0) will take the mound for the Dodgers in just his sixth start of the season as he recently returned from a shoulder issue. Heaney last pitched on August 1 against the San Francisco Giants where he allowed four hits and one earned run over four innings in a no-decision. The southpaw has a 0.77 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP through 23.1 innings.

Mike Clevinger (3-3) looks to build off one of his best starts of the season. The right-hander went seven innings deep against the Colorado Rockies on August 1, scattering five hits and one earned run in the win. Clevinger owns a 3.13 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP through 60.1 innings this year.

Manaea Rocked As Padres Drop Season Opener

The Padres dropped the series opener to the Dodgers on Friday, falling by a score of 8-1. Starter Sean Manaea had a rough night as he was rocked for 10 hits and eight earned runs over just four innings, while Brandon Drury drove in the lone run of the night for San Diego with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.

San Diego, which has now lost two straight games, had been off to a hot start in the second half, going 9-4 through its first 13 contests since the break. They’ll now be in tough to avoid getting swept by a Dodgers team that has had their number for the last few seasons.

Dodgers Score Early And Often Against Padres

The Dodgers made easy work of the Dodgers on Friday as they staked themselves to an 8-0 lead through three innings and cruised to victory. Cody Bellinger, Chris Taylor and Hanser Alberto cashed in two RBI each while Will Smith had three hits and knocked in one run as the club picked up its sixth straight win.

Los Angeles has had an electric start to the second half, winning 13 of 16 games and overtaking the New York Yankees as the top team in the majors. The club’s offense has been elite all year long, ranked second in the majors behind only New York, but they’ve turned it up even since the break by scoring over six runs per game. The Dodgers have been getting hits from their entire lineup but Mookie Betts has been a standout performer with two homers and seven RBI over his last four outings.

Padres vs Dodgers Pick & Insights

Padres: Keys To Victory

It’s much easier said than done but the Padres will need to find a way to slow down an explosive Dodgers offense if they’re going to pick up a win in this series. Clevinger was excellent in his last start and he’ll need to replicate that to keep this one close. It would also help if San Diego mustered more than the four hits they had on Friday.

Dodgers: Keys To Victory

The Dodgers are playing some of their best baseball of the season as the lineup is clicking from top to bottom offensively. Heaney may not be able to go very deep as he’s still fresh off the injured reserve, but Los Angeles has enough bullpen depth (and offense) to overcome any problems the starter may run into.
