Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers are big moneyline favorites in MLB betting odds to beat the Texas Rangers on Friday night.

OVER Preferable to Heavy Chalk as Dodgers Entertain Rangers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are 7-1 in their last eight games against Texas, including a 3-0 record in their last three home games against the Rangers. The Dodgers will try to continue their winning ways against Texas when they start up a three-game series Friday night in Los Angeles.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Dodgers opened as -252 favorites and are even bigger chalk now with the line settling in at Los Angeles -320. Texas will be looking for an upset as a +290 underdog while the total remains set at 7.5 runs.

Starting Pitchers Analysis

Mike Foltynewicz allowed eight hits and five earned runs in just 3.2 innings in his last outing against the Colorado Rockies last week. The rough start pushed Foltynewicz’s ERA up to 4.75 and his WHIP up to 1.34. The Rangers are 1-5 in  his last six starts.

Clayton Kershaw has pitched six innings and allowed five earned runs in each of his last two starts, picking up losses to the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves in those outings. Despite his recent struggles, Kershaw still owns a solid 3.66 ERA and 1.01 WHIP through 76.1 innings. The left-hander is 3-2 with a 3.55 ERA at Dodger Stadium this season.

Texas News & Notes

The Rangers squeaked out a 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants in extra innings on Wednesday night to snap a three-game losing streak and avoid being swept in the short two-game series. Texas is just 2-12 over its last 14 games and has been outscored 81-44 over that stretch.

To make matters worse, closer Ian Kennedy was placed on the injured list on Wednesday with a hamstring injury. Texas’s bullpen ranks 25th in the majors with an ERA of 4.59 and losing one of its best arms does not bode well for the week ahead. Then again, Texas hasn’t had too many late-inning leads to protect of late anyway.

Los Angeles News & Notes

The Dodgers cruised to a 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday to finish up the sweep with their third straight win. Mookie Betts went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in the win. Betts has had a subpar year at the plate by his standards with 34 runs, six home runs, 22 RBIs and a .255 batting average. It’s scary to think how good this offense could be if Betts were to get back to his usual level of production.

Los Angeles already has the second-best offense in the majors, averaging 5.26 runs per game. The Dodgers enter Friday’s action with a 37-25 record and sit 1.5 games behind San Francisco for the top spot in the National League West. The team is 19-10 at home this season.

Betting Pick: OVER 7.5 runs

The Dodgers look to be a pretty safe bet in this one, but bettors looking to avoid the heavy chalk might prefer the OVER instead. Kershaw has been shaky of late and even if Texas only scores a couple of runs, this Dodgers offense is good enough to do the rest.
