Raptors Lose Key Players In Game 1
Game 1 was a nightmare for the Raptors as they fell 131-111 and lost more than just the game. Scottie Barnes sprained his ankle in the fourth quarter, Gary Trent Jr. missed practice with a non-COVID illness and Thaddeus Young was seen wearing a wrap on his thumb. All three players are listed as doubtful for Monday’s matchup.
Toronto struggled in two key areas during Game 1: rebounding and off the fast break. The Sixers outscored the Raptors 29-10 on fast-break points, while Toronto grabbed just two offensive boards in the first half. If there was any positive to take from the game, it was that the Raptors held Joel Embiid to just 19 points on 5-for-15 shooting from the field.
Maxey Scores 38 Points To Lead 76ers
The Sixers will be ecstatic with their performance in Game 1 as they spread out the offense and didn’t have to rely solely on Embiid and James Harden to get the job done. In fact, it was Tyrese Maxey who led the charge with a breakout performance, scoring 38 points to lead all players. Tobias Harris was also a key contributor with 26 points while Harden (22 points, 14 assists) and Embiid (19 points, 15 rebounds) posted double-doubles.
Philadelphia will likely be even more confident heading into Game 2 given that Embiid certainly has more in the tank. Couple that with the fact that Toronto will be without a couple starters and could be another big win for the 76ers.
Raptors vs 76ers Pick & Insights
Raptors: Keys to Cover
The Raptors have prided themselves on their tight defensive system all season long but they looked porous on Saturday as they gave up at least 34 points in each of the first three quarters. If the Raps are going to even up the series, they’ll need to up the intensity in their own half.
76ers: Keys to Cover
Philadelphia looked like it simply had too many weapons for Toronto to deal with in Game 1, and the Sixers will want to keep sharing the ball and playing to the hot hand in Game 2. If they can come out strong and build another first-half lead, the 76ers should take this one convincingly again.
