Opening Odds Analysis

The Clippers opened as slim favorites at only -1.5 in Game 3, but heavy betting action on the home team has driven the line up to Los Angeles -4.5. The total on the other hand has not seen much movement as it settled in at 233 points after opening at 233.5 points. Utah is 4-1 ATS in its last five road games.

Utah News & Notes

Donovan Mitchell has risen to the challenge of a tough opponent in the second round with two outstanding games against the Clippers. Mitchell scored 45 points in Utah’s 112-109 win over Los Angeles in Game 1 and 37 points in the team’s 117-111 win in Game 2. Jordan Clarkson was also red-hot on Thursday night going 6-for-9 from three-point range and scoring 24 points in the victory.

Now the Jazz will need to prove that they can play at the same level on the road. Utah is 35-6 SU and 26-13-2 ATS at home this season while going a more pedestrian 23-15 SU and 20-18 ATS on the road. Mitchell’s offensive production has been steady on the road (averaging 26.3 points per game this season) and at home (averaging 26.6 points per game), but the team as a whole has been better in Utah this year.

Los Angeles News & Notes

The Clippers find themselves back in an 0-2 series deficit just a couple of weeks after falling into one against the Dallas Mavericks. Los Angeles went 1-3 SU and ATS at home in that series as the road team won every game until Game 7. This group will have to be a lot better at Staples Center in this series if the Clippers hope to make this a series.

Kawhi Leonard has been held to just 22 points per game through the first two games of this series. Leonard averaged 32.1 points in his seven games against the Mavericks and will need to elevate his game to get Los Angeles back into contention. Los Angeles is 3-5 SU and 2-6 ATS in its last eight home games.

Betting Pick: OVER 223 points

Leonard and the Clippers’ offense should step up at home in Game 3, but that isn’t going to stop Utah’s red-hot offense from continuing to perform well. Look for an entertaining shootout that sends the total OVER 223 points.
