Buckle Up for Murray vs Grier and Two High-Octane Offenses

Bettors are lining up to bet the OVER when Kyler Murray and Will Grier hook up at Mountaineer Field with a trip to the Big 12 championship game on the line Friday night in Morgantown. The Sooners open as a 1.5-point favorite in a game that is sure to be heavy on offense with two of the nation’s top 10 offenses going head-to-head. The total opened at 80 and has rocketed to 84.5 as the game gets closer.

SHARK BITES
  • The total has gone OVER in Oklahoma’s last four games vs West Virginia (avg. combined score: 80.0).
  • The total has gone OVER in six of Oklahoma’s last seven games (avg. combined score: 89.0).
  • Oklahoma is 19-0 SU in its last 19 games on the road (avg. winning margin: 20.42).

Both Quarterbacks Are in the Heisman Conversation

While Tua Tagovailoa is the Heisman favorite, the next two names, should he falter, will be under center in this game. Kyler Murray seems to get better every time out and would have NFL teams drooling – except none of them will see him next season. Murray is already under contract with the Oakland A’s and will be a middle infielder in their organization next season.

Before walking away from the gridiron, Murray is proving himself to be well worthy of Heisman consideration by throwing for 3,310 yards (8th), 34 passing touchdowns (4th), a 70.3 percent completion rate (6th) and a 205.8 QB rating (2nd). He will be licking his chops against the No. 87 passing defense of WVU that was just carved up for 338 yards and five touchdowns by Taylor Cornelius.

Not to be outdone, Grier has 3,325 passing yards (7th), 33 passing touchdowns (5th), a 67.2 percent completion rate (15th) and a 174.2 QB rating (4th). These numbers are nightmarish for the No. 107 pass defense of Oklahoma.

My Best Bet for This Game

Picking a side in a game that is bound to be one of the highest-scoring games in college football this season is a tall task and one that I’m not really willing to wade into. I’m much more comfortable making an OVER bet and I have already locked in at 81.5.

The public is all over the OVER bet as well and I expect the total to continue creeping up as we get toward Friday. These teams are a combined 15-5-1 O/U this season while Oklahoma’s last three games have each had more than 90 total points scored, including a 48-47 thriller vs Oklahoma State.

The Mountaineers just played an 86-point game against Oklahoma State and played to 83 points vs Texas on November 3. To complete the argument for this game going OVER the total – Oklahoma is first in the FBS in yards per play while West Virginia is seventh. There will be plenty of passes thrown and completed and I predict that the scoreboard operator will be the busiest person in the stadium.
