USF Looks To Open Season Red-Hot Yet Again

Expectations are high for the USF Bulls entering the 2017 season. With Quinton Flowers under center and Charlie Strong on the sideline, USF has the potential to win the AAC and go undefeated this year. The first step will be to open the season rolling like last season when the Bulls went 3-0 SU and ATS in their non-conference schedule. USF opens its slate of games at San Jose State on Saturday.

Shark Bites
  • San Jose State is 5-2 ATS in its last 7 games as an underdog of 20.0 or more.
  • USF is 11-4 ATS in its last 15 games as favorite.
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of USF’s last 7 games.

Flowers, the reigning AAC offensive player of the year, played phenomenally last season by throwing for 2,812 passing yards and adding 1,530 yards with his feet. Flowers will be without Rodney Adams and Marlon Mack but there appears to be enough depth for the team to be fine. The defense was terrible last season and that is why Strong was brought in. Seven of the team’s top nine tacklers are held over from 2016, giving Strong experience to work with.

San Jose State cleaned house after last season and brought in first-time head coach Brent Brennan. The 44-year-old spent 2005-2010 with the team in various roles on the offensive side of the ball. Who plays quarterback throughout the season is anyone’s guess with Josh Love, Montel Aaron, Sam Allen and Michael Carrillo all vying for the job.
