Although the Trojans have a 5-1 record and a legitimate shot at winning the Pac-12 South, bettors have been wise to fade USC. The Trojans are 1-5 ATS this season, all of the losses coming with them as the favorite. USC will once again be double-digit favorites when they host the Utah Utes on Saturday.
Utah picked up a 31-27 victory over USC last season thanks to an explosion of offense in the fourth quarter. The Utes were down 27-17 with 10 minutes left in the game only to score 14 unanswered points – including scoring the winning touchdown with just 0:16 left.
USC quarterback Sam Darnold’s first collegiate start came in that game against Utah last season when he went for 18-for-26 with 253 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. Darnold has grown by leaps and bounds since that game but has found himself getting into serious turnover problems with nine interceptions so far this year.
We still don’t know who is going to be under center for Utah this weekend. Tyler Huntley was the guy but was sidelined two games ago against Arizona and did not play last week. Senior Troy Williams stepped in but has been far from a model of consistency. Whoever is at QB should be targeting receiver Darren Carrington II, who is easily the best offensive player for the team.
