Neal Brown Hoping For His First Big Year In Morgantown

Neal Brown took over the Mountaineers in 2019 and has failed to generate much success with a 17-18 SU record in his first three seasons with the program. West Virginia went 6-7 SU and ATS in 2021 to finish with a losing record for the second time under Brown. The Mountaineers had only one losing season from 2002 through 2018 with Rich Rodriguez, Bill Stewart and Dana Holgorsen at the helm.

With Graham Harrell taking over as West Virginia’s new offensive coordinator, the Mountaineers are hoping to get things back on track this season. Former USC Trojans and Georgia Bulldogs quarterback JT Daniels has been named the team’s starter against Pitt. Daniels passed for 1,953 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions in limited playing time in his last two seasons at Georgia.

Pittsburgh Looks To Build Off Strong 2021 Campaign

The Panthers had their best season since 1981 last year, going 11-2 SU and 10-3 ATS during the regular season before losing to the Michigan State Spartans in the Peach Bowl. Senior quarterback Kenny Pickett had 4,319 passing yards, 42 touchdown passes and only seven interceptions in Pittsburgh’s impressive campaign before sitting out of the Peach Bowl in preparation for the 2022 NFL Draft.

Now the Panthers will try to prove that they can keep up a high level of play without their former star quarterback under center. Former USC Trojans quarterback Kedon Slovis takes over as the Panthers’ new starting quarterback and brings plenty of experience with him after collecting 7,567 passing yards and 58 passing touchdowns in his three seasons with the Trojans.

Mountaineers: Keys To Victory

West Virginia returns plenty of talent on defense in its front seven, but there are a lot of question marks and new faces in the secondary. If this group can hold its own against what should be a solid Panthers passing game, West Virginia should find itself in position to cover the spread or even score an upset as a Mountaineers vs Panthers prediction.

Panthers: Keys To Victory

Pittsburgh had loads of talent around Kenny Pickett last season, but his loss and the loss of superstar wide receiver Jordan Addison means that new players are going to need to step up into key leadership roles. If this current group is able to do that and to play to its potential, the Panthers should start their season with a victory as a Mountaineers vs Panthers pick.
