Saquon Barkley's free agency odds sure suggest the long-time Giants running back will finally be on the move.
The Giants are just fourth in the odds for Barkley's 2024 team (+550), meaning NFL sportsbooks think Saquon will sign elsewhere this offseason.
I'll break down those potential Barkley destinations and a value pick on where the top running back will land:
Saquon Barkley Next Team Odds
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Houston Texans | -140 |
Los Angeles Chargers | +300 |
Dallas Cowboys | +450 |
Philadelphia Eagles | +450 |
New York Giants | +650 |
Chicago Bears | +900 |
Odds from a top sportsbook
The Texans are going to do something big this summer, it's just a question of what. They've got the fourth-most projected cap space in the league (~$70 mill) and a good, young team to bolster. I've already said I like the idea of Tee Higgins or another receiver in Houston, but upgrading from Devin Singletary to Saquon would help, too.
The question is can the Texans sign a few top defensive backs (which is their biggest need) and still have room for Barkley? There are also cheaper RB options like Josh Jacobs or Derrick Henry they could turn to, instead.
Barkley may be the best fit of the bunch for the Texans, though, as they love using backs in the passing game. Singletary and RB2 Dameon Pierce combined for 43 receptions and nearly 400 air yards for Houston last year and Barkley has surpassed 40 receptions himself in each of the last three seasons.
Saquon's Recent Seasons
Barkley is one of the best running backs in the league when healthy, but that's always been a big question for him. However, in recent years, he's stayed pretty clean, playing at last 13 games in each of the last three seasons.
A few years ago, taking a big free agent risk on a guy like Barkley may seem ill-advised, but he's hitting free agency at a good time to cash in.
Year | Rushing Yards | Y/C | TD |
---|---|---|---|
2023 | 962 | 3.9 | 6 |
2022 | 1,312 | 4.4 | 10 |
2021 | 593 | 3.7 | 2 |
Saquon Barkley Next Team Value Pick: Bears
Like the Texans, the Bears are also going to have over $50 million in cap space to work with this summer and they'll need some talent to surround.
If Chicago drafts Caleb Williams at 1 and adds a receiver with their second first-round pick, Barkley could be the final touch to the offense. Young RB Roschon Johnson and vet D'Onta Foreman are a fine running back room, but Barkley is a clear upgrade. He shouldn't cost enough to prevent them from addressing the offensive and defensive lines, too.
The Bears are already one of my value picks in 2025 Super Bowl odds, and adding Barkley would only push them further up the board.
