Edmonton Oilers Will Break NHL Win Streak Record

The Edmonton Oilers are one win away from tying the longest winning streak in the NHL at 17 games. Getting to 16 games alone is an incredible achievement considering where Edmonton was just a few months ago.

Maybe not as incredible as the $4,997 one would have made if they'd placed a $10 at the start of Edmonton's streak and rolled over winnings through to win number 16.

Oddsmakers aren't convinced Edmonton will keep the good times rolling. UNDER 17.5 games is at -155 compared to +125 for OVER 17.5 games.

Can Oil Country defy the oddsmakers by not only equalling that 17-game NHL record set by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins but could they set the record themselves at 18 games or even more?

Edmonton Oilers Chasing NHL History

Edmonton's next two games are against the Vegas Golden Knights (Feb. 6) and Anaheim Ducks (Feb. 9). Both are road games for the Oilers. And with all due respect to Anaheim, the Oilers' ability to claim the record comes down to that first game against the Golden Knights after the All-Star Break.

The Oilers have been dominant on the road going 9-1SU, holding a 57% 5on5 CF and 60% xGF. Those underlying numbers (CF and xGF) are important because the last time Edmonton played the Knights, they won 5-4 thanks to a 55% CF and a 61% xGF.

Both teams will have a lengthy break before this matchup. A fact that favored the Oilers. Edmonton has been pretty good with three or more days of rest going 3-1SU this season, meanwhile, Vegas is 0-4SU in the same situation. All signs point to Edmonton winning this one and (effectively) locking in that record.

For those of you rolling over your winnings in this 16-game streak, a win against Vegas on, let's say, -150 odds for Edmonton, would nearly double your bankroll to a whopping $8,328.

PS: While you back Edmonton to match the record with a win in Vegas, I'd also bet the UNDER in that game. McDavid's boys have hit the UNDER in nine straight while Vegas is 6-3-1 in their last 10.

Incredibly Valuable Title & Awards Odds

Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Odds

When it comes to the Stanley Cup odds, Edmonton is a lot lower than you'd expect them at +1500. That's excellent value for us bettors.

The Oilers are playing like contenders beating everyone in their sights with their star players leading the way.

Connor McDavid has 26 points and Draisaitl has 23 for himself. But perhaps the real standout is Stuart Skinner. The young goalie who finished runner-up for the Calder Trophy last year, holds a 0.950SV% and 1.41GAA.

Now is the right time to bet on the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup. Remember, they held the joint-best odds to win the Cup back in August at +900. Backing them to win it all isn't exactly uncharted territory.

Kris Knobloach Should Be Jack Adams Odds Favorite

With this 16-game heater, you'd think that Kris Knoblauch would be the favorite on the Jack Adams odds board. But Knobber is third on the board at +1000, behind Rick Tocchet (Vancouver Canucks) and Rick Bowness (Winnipeg Jets).

I can't think of a better example of excellence in coaching than flipping a team from 0.22 points per game to 0.81 points per game midseason.

A coaching change was made to illicit a response and push the team towards the playoffs and a Cup, and Knoblauch has done that in very short order. How he's third on the board is borderline criminal.

Stuart Skinner Vezina Trophy Odds

Speaking of Stuart Skinner. His odds are very long to win the top-goalie honors. At +3500 he's all the way down at 13th on the odds board. But do not sleep on him.

Remember those numbers from this winning streak: 0.950SV% and 1.41GAA. Those are numbers that guarantee a Vezina trophy. Now add the fact that he's third for wins in the league at 23 and Skinner is a lot closer to that Vezina than the awards suggest.
