Erin Blanchfield paved the way for plenty of fighters to exploit Andrade's weaknesses. In that Fight Night event on February 18, Blanchfield dodged the Brazilian, who swung wildly with her chin in the air, ducked under her strikes and secured a takedown. After that, it was a quick transition to Andrade's back, followed by a second-round rear-naked choke win.
Yan doesn't have Blanchfield's grappling ferocity, but she's certainly equipped to win this fight. In her last fight, "Nine" fended off two takedowns and a couple of submission attempts from grappling specialist Mackenzie Dern. Yan got back up and rallied for a victory on points, flashing some versatility that'll serve her well at UFC 288.
As always, Andrade's atomic overhands pose a scary threat, so her defense will need to be sharp.
How Andrade Wins
Violence — Andrade wins by basking in the blood of her enemies. Her short arms force her to rumble in close, but that's where she can unload on her opponents with deadly hooks. Watch for the Brazilian to unload on Yan's body as she swarms with strikes.
That said, wrestling will be an underrated X-factor in this matchup. Andrade can whup anyone on the feet, which forces her opponents to change levels. We shall see how the Brazilian handles the ground game this time around.
Andrade vs Yan Betting Pick
This is a tough one to pick. Andrade is such a frustrating fighter. "Bate Estaca" put a clinical beating on Lauren Murphy at UFC 283, but came undone last time vs Blanchfield.
Now, Andrade returns to her natural 115-pound weight class, which should help, though I'm not sure that will change the result. Yan will win this closely contested fight.
