Robbie Lawler aims to defend his UFC Welterweight Championship for the third consecutive bout when he faces off against Tyron Woodley at UFC 201. Woodley will certainly have his hands full, as ‘The Chosen One’ has not stepped inside the octagon since January 31, 2015.
Lawler has opened as a healthy -250 favorite with Woodely coming back at +195 per Bovada.
There is no doubt that Lawler is one of the most exciting fighters in the world with his bouts against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit becoming instant classics. ‘Ruthless’ is an aggressive striker who revels when fights turn into all out wars. Though his striking gets a lot of the publicity, there was a point when Lawler was a wrestler first and he still has great skills in that regard.
Woodley was a NCAA D-I wrestler and has translated those skills well to MMA., but he does tend to prefer keeping the fight standing. ‘The Chosen One’ can wing punches – which leave him exposed – but he has brick hands that make up for some of the technical deficiencies.
- Robbie Lawler -250
- Tyron Woodley +195
