The featherweight title will be back up for grabs in the main event of UFC 273 when champion Alexander Volkanovski defends against the Korean Zombie. This fight will be the second of two championship bouts, coming immediately after Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan 2.

UFC 273 is taking place at Jacksonville Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, on April 9 and can be seen on PPV. When it comes to Volkanovski vs Korean Zombie odds, the champ, Volkanovski, is the large betting favorite.

Volkanovski vs Korean Zombie Odds Analysis

These are the shortest betting odds for Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski since his third fight in the UFC way back in 2017 when he took on Shane Young. In his two title defenses, he’s had an average closing line of -200 so we are seeing a huge shift in odds in his third defense.

Shorter Odds For Zombie In Second Title Shot

It was a long time ago when the Korean Zombie, aka Chan Sung Jung, fought for the featherweight title against Jose Aldo. That night, at UFC 163 in 2013, Zombie was a +650 underdog and failed to cash as the plus-money option, losing via a fourth-round knockout. His odds are cut in half this time around but will the result be different?

Volkanovski vs Zombie Betting Preview

The list of opponents that Volkanovski has defeated recently is nothing short of impressive: Brian Ortega, Max Holloway twice and Jose Aldo represent his last four wins. Granted, the second Holloway fight was a controversial split but the champ retained his belt nonetheless.

The Great is extremely well-rounded and dangerous wherever the fight plays out. On the feet, he averages 6.42 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.34, and he also mixes in 1.77 takedowns per 15 minutes. In his outing with Ortega, he showed his will and determination by surviving a very tight submission.

Can Zombie Cash On Golden Opportunity?

It’s not as though Jung is on this huge winning streak to hop into a title fight – he is 1-1 in his last two with his defeat coming to the man who just fought for the title, Brian Ortega. That said, the champ called him out after the Max Holloway trilogy was canceled due to an injury.

Zombie is a very technically sound fighter and has weapons in all facets of the game. He was the first man to land a twister submission back in his UFC debut against Leonard Garcia in 2011. A known finisher with all six of his wins coming by stoppage (four knockouts, two submissions), he has the skills to pull off the upset.

Volkanovski vs Zombie Betting Pick

While the Zombie is a dangerous competitor and certainly a top-five fighter in the division, there are levels to this game and I’m not sure he has what it takes to knock off the champ. I believe he will be at a speed disadvantage as he tends to load up on his strikes for more power.

Ultimately, Volkanovski’s skills are better in nearly every department and he should retain the title.

Prediction: Alexander Volkanovski Inside The Distance (+170)
