Colts Look For Answers with Luck Still Sidelined

Chuck Pagano was forced back to the drawing board after he and the Scott Tolzien-led Colts were laughed out of Los Angeles in Week 1 and if he doesn’t put forth a more respectable performance against the Cardinals this Sunday, he’ll be skating on some very thin ice. Pagano’s team, however, is still severely handicapped with Andrew Luck on the sideline for the foreseeable future and Indy opened its Week 2 contest as an enormous home underdog.

SHARK BITES
  • The Cardinals are 2-5 SU and ATS in their last 7 games on the road.
  • The total has gone OVER in the Cardinals’ last 8 games.
  • Carson Palmer was 26-for-37 with 314 yards and 2 touchdowns when he last played the Colts.

Nothing went right for the Colts in Week 1 and many hot-take artists have taken to their keyboards to deem them the worst team in the NFL. While that may be a bit of an overreaction, they’ll be hard pressed to win a game – let alone cover – with Tolzien in charge of the offense. The undrafted Wisconsin signal-caller went 9-for-18 on Sunday with two pick-sixes and he orchestrated just one scoring drive against an Aaron Donald-less Rams D.

Not faring much better in their own season opener, the Cardinals could be in search of a new quarterback with Carson Palmer clearly not the same guy he was in 2015. The former first overall pick was intercepted by the Lions three times and he was horrible away from home last year, putting together a 77.0 road quarterback rating a season ago.

Palmer has every weapon on offense he needs to be successful – minus David Johnson for two to three months – he just needs to keep the ball out of his opponents’ hands as the Cards were 2-6 straight up last season in games Palmer threw at least one pick. Luckily for him, the Colts intercepted just eight passes in 2016 (second-worst in the NFL) and their most effective cornerback is out with a groin injury.

Since Bruce Arians took the reins in Arizona, he’s coached against the Colts just once and it was in a 40-11 rout of his former team. Luck was healthy and played in that game, making the Colts’ prospects in this one fairly gruesome.
