Bengals Have Covered Spread in Last 9 Games vs Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals are both winless heading into their Week 3 matchup, and one of these teams has really struggled against the other recently. The Eagles hope to buck those trends as solid home favorites on Sunday.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Philadelphia has looked like anything but an NFC title contender in its first two games while Cincinnati has played better than expected despite going 0-2 as well. Bettors seem to be liking the chances of the Bengals to cover the spread more than the Eagles in this spot after seeing rookie quarterback Joe Burrow do just that against the Cleveland Browns on the road last Thursday night. Both the point spread and total are dropping.

Cincinnati News & Notes

Burrow might very well be the favorite to win NFL Rookie of the Year and figures to earn the award if he can just stay healthy and lead Cincinnati to at least a few wins. This may not be one of them, but that does not mean Burrow cannot keep the score close and pull off another cover here.

The Bengals have lost their first two games by a combined eight points, and that is what the Sportsbook number was in favor of their opponent. That number has gone down due in part to Philadelphia’s poor performances in the first two weeks, as the team’s defense has surrendered 64 points to Washington and the Los Angeles Rams.

So Cincinnati should be able to score some points in this one, and the team has also gone an unreal 9-0 against the spread in the past nine meetings.

Philadelphia News & Notes

Scoring fewer than 20 points against both Washington and the Rams is definitely a poor way for an offense to start the season, but Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is known for making adjustments and taking advantage of an opponent’s weaknesses. Pederson got running back Miles Sanders back vs Los Angeles, and he played well with 95 yards on 20 carries, including a five-yard touchdown run.

The problem offensively has been quarterback Carson Wentz, who has attempted 85 passes so far and completed only 50 of them with two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Wentz has completed more than 60 percent of his passes in each of his previous four seasons, and Philadelphia’s future success depends on him and his ability to turn things around as a runner and passer.

Betting Pick: OVER 46

Neither defense can stop the opposing offense, so there should be plenty of points scored. The Eagles are way overdue to break out offensively behind Wentz, and Burrow has shown he can make plays and keep the Bengals competitive. With bettors moving the total down, this is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of a lower number than the opener, providing great value on betting the OVER.
