Denver Broncos vs Kansas City Chiefs Betting Preview

Expect Chiefs to Continue Domination of Division Rivals

Kansas City (10-1 SU, 6-5 ATS) has won 24 of its last 27 games against AFC West rivals, going 21-6 ATS in that span. The Chiefs look to improve on those numbers Sunday night when they host the struggling Broncos (4-7, 6-5), who have covered just one of the last 10 meetings.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Lay a big number with Kansas City at your own risk. The Chiefs’ last three victories have come by a combined margin of nine points and KC hasn’t covered the spread since a 35-9 blowout of the Jets more than a month ago. Meanwhile, Denver is a two-touchdown underdog for the second straight week.

Denver News & Notes

The Broncos shouldn’t have to start a receiver at quarterback this week. No new positive tests were reported out of Denver’s Sunday COVID-19 testing, meaning the Broncos should have at least one of Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles available for this contest.

All three quarterbacks were ineligible to play in last week’s 31-3 loss to the Saints after it was learned they didn’t wear masks while in close contact with backup quarterback Jeff Driskel, who tested positive a few days before the game.

Forced to use wideout Kendall Hinton at quarterback against New Orleans, the Broncos mustered just 37 yards of offense in the first half and were nearly shut out at home for the first time in franchise history. Running back Philip Lindsay, who played an increased role including some direct snaps in wildcat formations, left the game in the second half with a knee injury.

Lost in Denver’s quarterback circus last week was another solid performance by the Broncos defense. Denver sacked Taysom Hill three times, intercepted him once and allowed just 78 passing yards, and 10 of the Saints’ points came directly off Broncos turnovers.

The Broncos have now gone UNDER in three straight games overall, in 12 of their last 15 games against AFC West opponents and in 23 of their last 32 in conference play.

Kansas City News & Notes

The defending Super Bowl champions haven’t seemed interested in blowing out anybody recently, winning their last three games by a combined margin of nine points. Last week in Tampa Bay, the Chiefs roared out to an early 17-0 lead and were up 20-7 at halftime, yet failed to cover as 3.5-point favorites as the Buccaneers scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Tyreek Hill enters action leading all NFL receivers with 1,021 yards and 13 touchdowns, three of which came last week against the Bucs. Hill recorded 203 receiving yards before the first quarter was even over, and Patrick Mahomes threw for 339 yards in the first half alone – the most in an Sportsbook half in 20 years.

KC likely would have covered the spread last week if it had been more efficient in the red zone. The Chiefs failed to score a touchdown on three of their trips inside the Tampa Bay 20, settling for a pair of field goals and having another drive end on a Mahomes fumble.

Betting Pick: Chiefs -13.5

It’s been a while since we saw a complete effort from the Chiefs, but I think we see one here under the lights at home against the hated Broncos.
