Texans could struggle vs high-flying Rams

We now know what Deshaun Watson meant to the Houston Texans. After the NFL’s leader in TD passes went out with a torn ACL, quarterback Tom Savage started and could only lead the Texans to 14 points against the atrocious Indianapolis Colts. The Texans are now on life-support and opened as double-digit dogs in Week 10 when they travel to play the high-scoring Los Angeles Rams.

SHARK BITES
  • The Rams are 1-8 SU in their last nine games at home.
  • Rams running back Todd Gurley leads the league with 8 TDs this season.
  • The visiting team is 3-0 SU in the last three games in this matchup.

The Texans looked to be on the come-up with Watson and their two dynamite wide receivers, DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller. The trio connected for a combined 13 touchdowns after Fuller came back from injury in Week 4. Now, the team has to resort to Savage, who despite the harsh critiques did manage to throw the first TD pass of his career (coincidentally to Hopkins). The drop-off was evident when Savage took the snaps and the Texans might be hard pressed to win another game all year.

The Rams, on the other hand, are rolling after a complete domination of the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Los Angeles knows what it’s like to have terrible quarterback play and how hopeless it can be to win in the NFL (paging Shaun Hill). However, all of that is in the rear-view mirror now that head coach Sean McVay has figured out how to utilize Jared Goff. The Rams lead the league in scoring, averaging just under 33 points per game, and are 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS this season. Eat the points with the Rams and feel confident you aren’t asking Tom Savage to keep this game close.

The total opened at 46.5 and taking the OVER may be the best wager for bettors. To reiterate, the Rams have a prolific offense this season and the OVER could be obtained by the Rams themselves. Los Angeles alone has surpassed 40 points in three games this season and the total has gone OVER in seven of the Rams’ last 10 games. If Watson was still in the Texans lineup, the line may have been closer to 55 points and I’d still recommend the OVER.

Sportsbook Odds & Computer Pick

Sportsbooks, including Sportsbook, had set the Los Angeles Rams as 3-point favorites on the Sportsbook line for this contest. The total was hovering around 47 earlier in the week (check for the current OVER/UNDER lines at Sportsbook).

Prediction-scoring formulas run on this game picked a potential 36-10 result in favor of the Rams. View the computer score prediction and who will win the pick on the moneyline for all upcoming NFL matchups here.
