How Many NFL Coaches Get Fired On Black Monday?

Black Monday, the darkest day for the NFL every year, is quickly approaching. The day after the regular season ends has become a traditional firing season in which many coaches find themselves with a pink slip. Last season alone, four head coaches (and one general manager) were shown the door on this day.

This year, you can look to profit off the misfortune of others if you can predict how many coaches will get axed on Black Monday. Online book Sportsbook has posted the OVER/UNDER total for coaches being fired between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs at 5 (EVEN/-140).

None of the 12 teams making the playoffs will be firing their head coach in this time window and three teams have already terminated their coach. That, theoretically, leaves 17 teams that could fire their coach between January 2 and 7.

There is one team that will almost certainly can its head coach. Mike McCoy likely books his trip to the unemployment line after the San Diego Chargers lost to the winless Cleveland Browns in Week 16. Other coaches who are surely sitting on the hot seat include Todd Bowles, John Fox, Marvin Lewis and Chuck Pagano.

Even if all five of those coaches got fired on Black Monday, we would still need at least one somewhat shocking firing to get you over the 5.0 total set.
