Chiefs Have Been Putting Teams Away as Road Chalk

A string of great Thursday Night Football games continues in Week 7 when the 2-4 Raiders host the 5-1 Chiefs as underdogs in the Bay Area. Both teams are coming off losses but for the silver and black, it was their fourth straight. If the Raiders are going to end their losing streak on TNF, they’ll also have to stop a five-game skid against K.C.

SHARK BITES
  • The Chiefs are 7-0 SU and ATS in their last 7 games as road favorites of 2.5 or more points.
  • The Raiders are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games against the AFC West.
  • The Chiefs are 5-0 SU and ATS following their last 5 regular-season losses.

Well familiar with each other, this will be the 117th all-time meeting between the Chiefs and Raiders, with the Chiefs holding a 10-win edge in the series. K.C. always seems to be one step ahead of Oakland but this season the Chiefs have widened the gap and have been pegged road favorites for good reason.

The main reason is that the Chiefs don’t lose consecutive games. Their last regular-season losing streak occurred in October 2015 and since then, they’re 5-0 straight up and against the spread after a loss. Andy Reid is one of the best head coaches in the NFL and you can guarantee he’ll have his guys ready to play in a short week.

Oakland, on the other hand, has been dreadful for four straight weeks, averaging just 13.25 points per game in that span. Derek Carr didn’t look like himself against the Chargers after suffering a fractured transverse process in his back and he’s got very limited time to get ready for Thursday night.

One of the keys for the Raiders – especially if Carr isn’t 100 percent – is stopping Kareem Hunt. When the uber-rookie has rushed for more than 80 yards this season, the Chiefs are 5-0 straight up and against the spread but with Oakland allowing 118 rushing yards per game, stopping Hunt might be out of the question.

For those not convinced by either side, you might want to take a look at the UNDER in a game that could have its share of punting. The last three in this matchup have all gone UNDER their total and this one doesn’t project as a barnburner either.
