NFL Betting: Favorites and OVERs Rule

Heading into Week 17 the 2013/14 NFL season will go down as the year of the favorites and the OVER results.

Favorites went 10-5-1 against the spread in Week 16 and are now 122-107-6 ATS, according to the OddsShark.com NFL betting standings.

The UNDER actually won Week 16, with 11 of 16 games staying UNDER the total. And, yet, the OVER has still hit in roughly 54.3 percent of games this season. Somewhere, there’s some happy Public Joes.

NFC West favorites have been the most dominant. The Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, and St. Louis Rams have combined to go 26-11 against the spread as favorites. The Cardinals and Rams are a combined 9-2 ATS as favorites.

Eleven of 15 Minnesota Vikings games have gone OVER the total. The Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos are both 11-4 on the OVER/UNDER.

Best / Worst Bets of Season

Heading into Week 17, the Seahawks and Cardinals are the only two teams that have covered the spread in 10 games. The Seahawks (10-5 ATS) are 10-point home favorites over the Rams on Sunday. The Cardinals (10-4-1 ATS) host the 49ers. The Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, and San Diego Chargers all have covered the spread in nine games.

While the title of best bet is still up for grabs, the Houston Texans have locked up the award for the worst bet in the NFL for this season. The Texans have failed to cover the spread in 12 of their 15 games. The Washington Redskins are 5-10 ATS, and the Chicago Bears are 4-10-1 ATS.

Week 17 Odds & Ends

The Cincinnati Bengals have covered the spread in all seven of their home games; the Bengals host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The New Orleans Saints are 6-0-1 ATS at home this season; they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

The Broncos are the only team to be favored in every game this season. The Jacksonville Jaguars are the only team to be an underdog in every game.
