Pittsburgh Names Mitch Trubisky Its Starting Quarterback
For the first time since 2003, Ben Roethlisberger will not be starting at quarterback for the Steelers. The retirement of Roethlisberger ushers in a new era at quarterback in Pittsburgh, and while some fans would like to see first-round draft pick Kenny Pickett take the helm, Mike Tomlin released the depth chart on Monday to reveal that Trubisky will be Sunday’s starter.
Pittsburgh finished last season on an 8-4-1 SU and 7-5 ATS run to make the playoffs before being promptly eliminated in a 42-21 loss on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs. There will be plenty of pressure on Trubisky and the rest of the quarterback room this year as the Steelers haven’t recorded a losing season since 2003.
Cincinnati Hopes To Build On Incredible 2021 Run
Joe Burrow caught fire down the stretch for the Bengals last season, leading the team on a 6-2 SU and 8-0 ATS run to end the year that included four outright upsets and wins over both of the AFC’s top seeds, the Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs, in the postseason. Cincinnati fell just shy of one last upset in a 23-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl.
No longer just a team with potential, the Bengals enter the 2022 season with legitimate expectations to be a contender again. It will be difficult to replicate last year’s success, but with virtually all of the key pieces to last year’s impressive run returning on both sides of the ball, there is plenty of reason for optimism in Cincinnati this season.
Steelers Player Prop: Najee Harris UNDER 59.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
The Bengals defense was the fifth-best against the run last season in terms of total rushing yards allowed. When we consider that Harris rushed for just 3.91 yards per carry last season, plus Cincinnati held him to 63 total rushing yards in two games in 2021, the UNDER looks like a fine bet.
Bengals Player Prop: Joe Burrow UNDER 256.5 Passing Yards (-115)
In Week 1 last season, Burrow threw for 261 yards. However, in two games vs the Steelers, he averaged a meager 181 yards through the air. The Bengals have certainly turned the tides in this AFC North rivalry, but we still expect this to be a gritty, closely contested battle. The run game could be more critical than the air attack, which is why we like Burrow UNDER 256.5 passing yards.
Steelers: Keys To Win
All eyes will be on Mitch Trubisky in his first start for the Steelers. And while his play is obviously going to impact the outcome of this game, it will also be up to Pittsburgh’s defense to slow down this high-powered Bengals attack if Pittsburgh hopes to come away with a cover or upset win as a Steelers vs Bengals prediction on the road.
Bengals: Keys To Win
Both the offense and defense from last year’s AFC champions remain largely intact, and this was a group that beat the Steelers last season by 14 in Pittsburgh and by 31 at home. More of the same level of play this year should be more than enough to pick up the win as a Steelers vs Bengals pick in this one.
