49ers Visit New York Desperate To Avoid 0-2 Start

San Francisco (0-1 SU and ATS) is in bounce-back mode after blowing a double-digit lead in last week’s season opener against Arizona. The 49ers are favored to square their record at 1-1 when they face the Jets (0-1 SU and ATS), who have lost six of their last seven home games vs San Fran.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

If this Sportsbook line looked short to you, the sharps agree. San Francisco was quickly steamed up to 7-point favorites and it won’t be a surprise to see this number close higher than a touchdown. The total moved slightly to the UNDER, with most books offering 42.5 at the time of writing.

San Francisco News & Notes

The curse of Super Bowl losers didn’t take long to strike the 49ers. San Francisco blew a 10-0 lead in last week’s 24-20 loss at home to Arizona, dropping teams coming off a Super Bowl loss to 8-14 SU and 6-16 ATS in their last 22 Week 1 contests the following season.

The Niners also got a huge scare in the first half as superstar tight end George Kittle went down with a knee injury. Kittle returned to play the second half, although he wasn’t targeted at all in the final 30 minutes.

Kittle’s availability for Week 2 is far from guaranteed and you’ll want to monitor it before betting on this one. San Fran is also down to just three healthy receivers after Richie James Jr. left last week’s game with a hamstring injury.

San Francisco’s Sportsbook-week loss continued the team’s bewildering struggles as chalk, dropping the Niners to 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 as favorites. San Fran has also lost nine of its last 11 road games in September and is 1-4 ATS in its last five road games against teams with losing records.

New York News & Notes

The Jets’ season was over early last year after a 1-7 start, and there are already reasons for worry in the Big Apple. New York trailed the Bills 21-0 midway through the second quarter of last week’s season-Sportsbook 27-17 loss, a score that flattered the Jets.

The New York secondary was gashed in its first game without departed safety Jamal Adams and COVID-19 opt-out linebacker C.J. Mosley, allowing Bills QB Josh Allen to complete 33 passes for 312 yards.

To make things worse, star running back Le’Veon Bell is likely out for several weeks after injuring his hamstring in the Sportsbook half. If Bell is unable to go this week, 37-year-old Frank Gore will likely be New York’s feature back against his former team.

Betting Pick: UNDER 42.5

I like the 49ers to bounce back with a win this week, but it’s tough to see San Francisco breaking out offensively with Kittle and many of their receivers banged up. Instead, the Niners grind out a victory with the ground game and by shutting down a New York attack that may struggle without Bell.
