EPL Betting: Southampton vs Liverpool

Liverpool is in fourth place in the Premier League table and there is a lot of pressure on them in their match against Southampton.

The reason is first and second place squads Chelsea and Arsenal face a couple of the weaker teams in the league and third place side Manchester City does not play this upcoming weekend. [ Matchup Report ]

Southampton is in ninth place in the EPL table, but they are coming off a loss in their last league match and were ousted from the FA cup in their one before that. However, they already scored a big road win against the Reds earlier this season.

Midweek the Sportsbook betting odds board had Liverpool posted as the road favorite at +100 with Southampton at +260 and a draw line of +250.

Liverpool has climbed into the top four in the league, as they unbeaten in their last eight matches and have won three in a row. Their offense has been on fire in their three-match winning streak combining for 12 goals.

With their goal barrage as of late the Reds have now scored the most goals in the EPL.

Southampton has had three straight road matches and for this match are back at home where they have not lost since January 1st. In that span they played to a home draw facing Arsenal. The big question for them in this game is can they thwart the Reds’ hot offensive attack?

Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge ranks second in the league in goals and he has scored four goals in his last three matches. What is even more impressive about the offensive onslaught from Liverpool is that the league-leading scorer Luis Suarez has not scored in the last four matches.

While the Reds’ offense has been firing on all cylinders Southampton has been struggling on that side of the pitch with three goals in their last three matches.

Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert have combined for 18 goals this season for Southampton and if the Liverpool defense can shut them down they should be in good shape. No other player for Southampton has more than three goals.

The Reds’ offense is plying great, but the same cannot be said about their defense. They have conceded three goals in each of their last two matches

Last season at home Southampton beat Liverpool 3-1.
