Padres Aim For Sweep of Lowly Cardinals

The San Diego Padres have won four in a row and look to complete the sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals after knocking in 12 runs last night. The Cardinals’ offense has been terrible for the month of June and ranks last in batting average and RBI over the last 30 days.

The Padres opened as -130 favorites with a total of 8.

STANDOUT STATS

  • Miles Mikolas gets the start for the Cardinals and he’s been a dumpster fire on the road this season. He owns a 7.76 ERA in seven road starts and in his last three starts away from New Busch Stadium, he’s given up 15 earned runs in 10.1 innings. However, in his lone start last year at Petco Park, he went 6.2 innings and only gave up two hits and one earned run.
  • Joey Luchessi will toe the rubber for the Padres and its night and day when he pitches at home compared to the road. At home, he has a 2.70 ERA in nine starts and on the road, its 6.10 in six outings. In his most recent home start, he shut out the Brewers and only gave up three hits over seven innings.
  • The Cardinals offense has fallen off a cliff lately and they rank last in MLB in batting average over the last 30 days. In that span, they rank 29th in hits, 26th in home runs, 29th in runs and last in RBI.
  • The one phase of the game where the Cardinals have been strong over the last month is in the bullpen. Their relievers own a 3.59 ERA over the last 30 days while holding teams to a .213 batting average. On the flip side, the Padres’ bullpen has been a wreck in the last 30 days with a 5.75 ERA and opponent batting average of .283.
  • Although they scored 12 runs last night, the Padres’ offense has not been great when playing at Petco Park this season. They rank 27th in batting average, 26th in total runs scored, 25th in RBI and third in total strikeouts.
  • It totals bettors are looking for an angle in this matchup, they may want to consider the UNDER. The UNDER has hit in eight of the Cardinals’ last 12 games and 10 of the last 14 games in this matchup. It’s also hit in eight of Miles Mikolas’ last 10 starts.

My Best Bet for Cardinals vs Padres

Padres Moneyline

This one is quite simple: the Cardinals stink! Their offense has been terrible for the last month and I’m not going to bank on their bats coming alive against one of the better young lefties in the game like Joey Lucchesi.

Luchessi's home/road splits are quite shocking but it shouldn’t be that surprising considering the pitcher-friendly confines of Petco Park. If you want to take the Cardinals, be my guest but nothing statistically should predict that the Cards take this one.
