Titans Set to Make London Debut in Week 7

European NFL fans didn’t have much to cheer about in terms of competitiveness in last week’s 27-3 snoozer between the triumphant Seattle Seahawks and the hapless Oakland Raiders at Wembley Stadium, but Week 7 presents another matchup across the pond between the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers in London. Sportsbooks opened the Chargers as 6.5-point favorites with a total of 45.5.

SHARK BITES
  • The Titans are 1-10 SU in their last 11 games vs the Chargers.
  • The total has gone UNDER in four of the Titans’ last five games (avg. combined score: 29.4).
  • The total has gone OVER in four of the Titans’ last five games vs the Chargers (avg. combined score: 56.0).

‘Home’ teams continue to struggle in England

The Raiders were tabbed as the “home” team in the Week 6 contest, yet it didn’t matter much as the Seahawks rolled over Oakland all game. In light of the contest, home sides are now 9-13 SU and 10-12 ATS in 22 London games. In four games in Europe last year, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams won as the designated home clubs, while the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns failed to prevail in that spot.

The OVER had been the hot bet in London matchups prior to last week, but the game stayed well below the closing total to cash tickets for UNDER bettors. Regardless, the OVER has still paid out in 11 of the past 17 matchups between American football teams in London. In 2017, two of the four games went above the closing total (Jaguars-Ravens and Browns-Vikings). For more NFL International Series betting information, click here.

Tennessee has a terrible track record against L.A.

The Titans’ struggles against the Chargers are well-documented and go back to when the Bolts were still in San Diego. In the Titans’ last 11 games against the Chargers, they’re 1-10 SU. In the past 10 meetings between the teams, the Titans are 0-9-1 ATS. The good news for Tennessee bettors is the Titans are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games when tabbed as underdogs.

Part of the Chargers’ agreement to move to Los Angeles and eventually share a stadium with the Rams was that the team had to give up one home game this year and next to play in London. The then-San Diego Chargers played in England back in 2008, while the Titans have never played in Jolly Old England.

My pick: take the UNDER

Tennessee was dominated from start to finish in Sunday’s 21-0 home loss to Baltimore, with quarterback Marcus Mariota getting sacked a ridiculous 11 times. The Titans managed only 106 total yards in the game, including 51 passing. The Titans have only topped 20 points on one occasion this season and there’s no reason to expect them to find their groove in England. Expect this one to be low-scoring and take the UNDER.

The Titans are 1-10 SU in their last 11 games vs the Chargers. The total has gone UNDER in four of the Titans’ last five games (avg. combined score: 29.4). The total has gone OVER in four of the Titans’ last five games vs the Chargers (avg. combined score: 56.0).
