Czech Republic vs. England in Euro 2020

England, Czech Republic Vie For Top Position Of Group D

Czech Republic (6-1-3, 5-3-2 ATS) and England (8-1-1, 8-2 ATS) will vie for the top of Group D when they meet at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday to round up group-stage play. On account of playing in London, England will start as rather substantial favorites to top the group.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The odds for a Czech Republic win have not moved at all since Sportsbook. The odds movement has been for the other two markets in this moneyline. The draw opened at odds of +350 but has since shortened significantly to +266. The odds for an England win have lengthened, possibly after a disappointing goalless draw against Scotland at Wembley last weekend. England’s odds are now -168 to win after Sportsbook at -250.

Czech Republic News & Notes

Czech Republic have been an inspired team at this competition. They are currently leading the group with one win and one draw. Their 2-0 win against Scotland was set up by a brace from Patrik Schick. Their 1-1 draw against Croatia was also aided and abetted by Schick, who took a blow to his face by Dejan Lovren in the box. He then stepped up to the penalty spot with a bloodied nose and slotted his spot kick to his left, earning a crucial point.

“We have four points, so that is a pretty good position for us. We know England have massive quality and top star players. But in their first games they did not create too many chances – maybe they are struggling a little bit in attack – but as a team they will be always tough to play against. So we have to prepare as well as we can and of course we want to win, get three points and secure qualification from this group,” Schick said.

Considering they are at the top of the group, a draw against England will be enough to keep them there. Czech Republic will certainly finish higher than fourth in this group, which means that they have a terrific chance at qualification regardless of proceedings on Tuesday against a strong England team.

However, they would not want to lose by a big margin, which could send them to third place. There are no injury or unavailability concerns for Czech Republic, which could mean they set up in a similar manner as they did against Croatia.

England News & Notes

England have been a reliable contender for the title of this tournament right since the odds were released several months ago. They have not lived up to that billing yet at Euro 2020. In fact, they have scored just one goal, which doesn’t appropriately reflect the depth and quality of offensive firepower that coach Gareth Southgate has at his disposal.

England first beat Croatia 1-0 before suffering a listless draw against Scotland at Wembley Stadium. That has hurt them so much that they will not finish as the top-placed team in this group without a win on Tuesday. That will hurt their seeding for the knockout stages of the competition. Despite a sluggish start, England will be in front of thousands of supporters at Wembley on Tuesday and will definitely have a discernible personnel advantage, man for man, on paper.

"We know the quality they’ve got. Some of their players have come to the Premier League and been excellent this season. Because of our recent history with Croatia and the fact that everybody focuses on Scotland, I think a lot of our fans pushed that Czech game to one side. We’re certainly not,” Southgate said.

Will he make changes? Harry Maguire could come in at some point to spend valuable minutes on the pitch after he was not used at all against Scotland. Jordan Henderson could also replace Kalvin Phillips as the holding midfielder for the team. Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho will throw their hat into the ring for a spot in the starting XI after England’s primary final-third players have failed to impress so far.

Betting Pick 1: England -168

There are several factors on England’s side in this fixture, including home-ground advantage and a superior bench for Southgate to call on. Czech Republic have overachieved at this competition so far, with one player having scored all three goals so far. England will come out with a better performance in the final third after some changes are made, which will result in a comfortable win for England. I would even consider opting for a (-1) goals handicap market, if you prefer a riskier profile.

Betting Pick 2: OVER 2.5 goals (-175)

At this stage of the tournament, you could see tackles flying around, teams having lesser defensive balance and several teams caught on the counter-attack. That might not be the case in this match but there is also a high chance that England will finally find their offensive fluency. If England manage to score two goals, the OVER becomes highly likely.
