2020 NFL Offseason Props: Who Wants Newton’s Services?

2020 NFL Offseason Props

The Vince Lombardi Trophy officially has a new home, as the Kansas City Chiefs won their first title in 50 years thanks to a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 54.

While the action on the gridiron is on hiatus until September, the NFL is a year-round league, and that means a fresh new batch of betting props getting released for the 2020 offseason.

Online shop BetOnline has updated its prop specials for free agency. The free-agent period has quieted down, but there are still some relatively big-name players available.

Don’t forget, the NFL draft is set to (virtually) get underway on April 23. For a breakdown of draft props, we have you covered.

Newton Needs a New Home

If it seems like Cam Newton is the forgotten man among NFL quarterbacks right now, that’s because he is, in a way. Newton, who was released by the Carolina Panthers on March 24, is currently an unrestricted free agent. Before releasing Newton, the Panthers inked Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year, $63-million deal to become the new starter.

With Newton looking elsewhere, the Los Angeles Chargers are the +200 front-runners to sign him, followed by the Washington Redskins (+275), Denver Broncos (+350), Miami Dolphins (+600), Jacksonville Jaguars (+700), New England Patriots (+900), Las Vegas Raiders (+1600), Pittsburgh Steelers (+2500) and Cincinnati Bengals (+4000).

What team will Cam Newton be on in Week 1 of the 2020 season?
Los Angeles Chargers+200
Washington Redskins+275
Denver Broncos+350
Miami Dolphins+600
Jacksonville Jaguars+700
New England Patriots+900
Las Vegas Raiders+1600
Pittsburgh Steelers+2500
Cincinnati Bengals+4000

What is Winston’s Landing Spot?

With the majority of starting quarterbacks already signed to new contracts, Jameis Winston is the odd man out right now. Tom Brady’s decision to leave the New England Patriots in favor of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signaled the end of Winston’s tenure in Tampa, and the Florida State product remains on the open unrestricted free-agent market.

According to BetOnline, the Miami Dolphins are the +150 front-runners to sign Winston, with the Washington Redskins (+225), Jacksonville Jaguars (+400), New England Patriots (+500), Los Angeles Chargers (+600), New Orleans Saints (+1600) and Dallas Cowboys (+3300) in the running.

There aren’t many bona fide No. 1 QB jobs available in the NFL right now, so Winston might have to settle for a backup job somewhere.

The 26-year-old’s penchant for turning the ball over at an alarming rate has clearly cancelled out his ability to throw touchdowns. As of right now, it would be a surprise to see Winston as a starter somewhere in 2020.

What team will Jameis Winston be on in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season?
Miami Dolphins+150
Washington Redskins+225
Jacksonville Jaguars+400
New England Patriots+500
Los Angeles Chargers+600
New Orleans Saints+1600
Dallas Cowboys+3300

Chargers are Searching for a QB

Elsewhere on the prop board, the Los Angeles Chargers are seemingly in the market for a new quarterback after the team decided to move on from longtime signal-caller Philip Rivers.

Tyrod Taylor is already on the roster for another year, and the Virginia Tech product is the heavy -190 favorite to be the Bolts’ starting quarterback in Week 1 of the 2020 campaign.

Cam Newton (+275), Jameis Winston (+600), Justin Herbert (+1000), Andy Dalton (+1400), Tua Tagovailoa (+2000), Jordan Love (+2500), Jake Fromm (+5000) and Colin Kaepernick (+10000) are also on the list at BetOnline.

L.A. has the sixth overall selection in the draft and could easily select its QB of the future with that pick. The Miami Dolphins, who sit above them at No. 5, are expected to take a quarterback.

With Joe Burrow likely going off the board to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 1 and the Dolphins reportedly favoring Tagovailoa, I can foresee the Chargers going with Herbert in that spot. Regardless, it looks like Taylor is already entrenched as the starting QB.
