NHL Prop Bets & Picks: wednesday, January 17

Only a few NHL matchups tonight, here are the best prop bets we've found.

cole caufield OVER 3.5 Shots (-110)

The New Jersey defense, allowing 3.51 GPG to sit in the league's bottom five, has plenty of holes for Caufield to dance through. Regardless of competition, the 23-year-old has a blast flipping pucks towards the net. In his last five outings, Caufield has blasted through 24 shots.

sitting sixth in the Atlantic, Montreal lacks of... everything (the logo tattooed on my ankle gives me a free pass for insults). However, its last five meetings have been decided by a single goal and three have gone into extra time. Something, somewhere deep down is fuelling the Habs a little extra right now. Either way, count on Caufield to show up every night.

tyler toffoli anytime goalscorer (+162)

The former Canadien pocketed his fifth career hattrick when he met his old team in October this year. And we all know how it goes when players see the team's that got rid of them -- they show up.

Also, one thing Montreal lacks is goaltending. It's been a tandem of veteran Jake Allen (.901SV%) and Sam Montembeault (.909SV%). But neither are impressively solid between the pipes. Toffoli has played, practiced and knows both netminders. He'll be eager to sneak one past either or them.

Montreal Vs New Jersey Goal In The First 4m 59s of The Period 1st Period - YES (+175)

In four of the Canadiens' last five matchups, they have scored or been scored on in the opening five minutes. The one exception? Luke Kunin's goal that sounded off the horn five minutes and 19 seconds into the first period.

We've already established neither defense is worth bragging about. So, either bench should take advantage of that weakness and hit the back of the net early.
