Odds to Win MLS: LAFC, NYC FC Lead Championship Odds

2019 MLS Futures Odds Los Angeles FC Carlos Vela Eduard Atuesta Diego Rossi

Los Angeles FC needed an own goal from Atlanta United on Friday to eke out a 4-3 win and avoid suffering consecutive defeats for the first time this season. LAFC has cooled off after going undefeated in 10 straight matches, falling to defeat in three of its past seven outings, but continues to lead the way on the MLS championship odds as heavy +225 favorites at Bovada.

Despite their recent stretch of inconsistency, the black and gold have dominated so far this season, racking up a league-leading 15-4-3 win-draw-loss record, and hold an 11-point lead over second-place Seattle in the MLS Western Conference standings.

LAFC has dominated on both sides of the ball, scoring an MLS-best 59 goals through 22 matches while surrendering just over one goal per match. Not surprisingly, the club sports two of the top four goalscorers in the league. Carlos Vela leads the way with 22 markers, while youngster Diego Rossi has emerged as a steady threat, potting 12 goals on the season, including five in his past seven outings.

NYC FC has had Up-and-Down Season

New York City FC sits second on the MLS futures at +650, ahead of the defending MLS Cup champion Atlanta United at +1000, and the LA Galaxy at +1200, while DC United rounds out the front of the pack at +1400.

NYC has endured a roller-coaster season in 2019. The Pigeons went winless through their first six matches, and saw a 14-match unbeaten streak snapped earlier this month by a three-loss slide that leaves the club lagging back in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

However, the club is coming off a convincing 3-1 win over Sporting KC this past weekend, and has surrendered more than one goal just once in its past six outings. And with four of its next five matches coming against opponents currently outside the playoff picture, NYC is poised to take a run at top spot in the East.

Defending Champs Struggling Defensively

Last week’s loss to Los Angeles extends a worrisome trend for Atlanta, which has posted consecutive wins just once in its past nine outings. The defending champions remain one of the league’s top clubs on home turf, posting just one loss in 12 dates this season. However, the Five Stripes have regularly given up big goal totals, allowing three or more goals in four of nine outings, and face tough tests in August matchups against NYC, LA Galaxy and the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union.

The Galaxy have also cooled off after a red-hot 7-1-1 start, going 5-0-8 in their past 13 and giving up a worrisome 22 goals during that stretch. The play of Zlatan Ibrahimović will be crucial to the club’s fortunes down the stretch. The 37-year-old superstar has scored 16 goals so far this season, including five over his past four outings. However, the Galaxy have posted just one win in seven matches when the former Paris Saint-Germain star is held off the scoresheet.

Surging Portland up to +1800

DC United remains just three points back of Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference race but has been blanked in its last two outings and on three occasions during a 1-3-2 run. Overall, the black and red have won just twice in their past 12 contests, while scoring just 13 total goals, including just one victory in five home dates.

Further down the MLS championship odds, the Union are joined by the San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders at +1600. The surging Portland Timbers have climbed to +1800 during a six-match unbeaten streak, followed by the New York Red Bulls, who join Minnesota United at +2000.
