How to Bet on The Super Bowl

The Super Bowl isn’t just a football game, it’s a worldwide pop culture extravaganza that attracts everyone from hard-core NFL fans to people who’ve never watched a second of football in their lives (Hi Grandma!). The Super Bowl has also become the main event of sports betting and, over the years, betting options for the big game have grown into the thousands – especially when it comes to prop bets.

Many newbie sports bettors will be looking to get in on the action, looking for betting odds on everything from the overall outcome of the game, to the point spread, to the OVER/UNDER time of the national anthem. Before the New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams for Super Bowl 53, read on to see what bets you find the most appealing and how to (fingers crossed!) win some major cash.

What Kind of Super Bowl Bets Can I Make?

While some people are still smarting from the losses they took during the NFC and AFC championship games, it’s important to move forward. It hurts, but the pain will go away before kickoff on February 3. Don’t let a few bad calls dissuade you from having a great time watching and wagering on Rams vs Patriots. There are great bets to be made this year, whether you’re looking to throw $5 on LA to win it all or $500 on the halftime show betting on if Adam Levine will wear a hat during the performance.

Plus, there’s food. How can you be upset when there’s three kinds of dip, tater tots, and all the wings in the world?

These are the top bets you can make before and during NFL Super Bowl Sunday.

Straight-up: Also called a moneyline bet, a straight-up wager is a bet made on the team you think will win the Super Bowl. If you believe the Los Angeles Rams are going to win, you would place your bet on them. Equally, if you think the New England Patriots are going to win, you would make your bet on them. It’s a pretty straightforward play.

Point Spread: The spread is a certain number of points each team has to win or lose by. Let’s say the Patriots are favored by 7 points. They would need to win the game by 7 or more points to cover the spread. Conversely, if the Rams are the underdog, they would need to either win the game or lose by less than 7 points.

Totals: This is a wager on the total combined score from both teams. If oddsmakers predict that the total combined score will be 39, you have the option of betting the OVER or UNDER. If you think the total score will be less than 39, you would take the UNDER. On the other hand, if you think the total score will be more than 39, you would choose the OVER. However, there is a chance that that total combined score will hit the oddsmaker’s predicted number exactly. In the event of this happening, it’s called a PUSH and your money would be refunded as if the bet never happened.

Prop Bets: Sports betting and entertainment collide on Super Bowl Sunday. Our Ultimate Props Page lists every single NFL prop you can make for Patriots vs Rams. You can make a bet on everything from whether Gladys Knight will forget a word while belting out the Star Spangled Banner, to the Gatorade color dumped on the winning coach, to the coin toss. You can also choose player-specific props like rushing yards, carries, touchdowns and who will be named MVP.

Futures: While Super Bowl 53 is being played, why not bet on Super Bowl 54? No, really. You can make a futures bet on which team you think is going to win next year’s big game. This is a great time to make a futures bet because the odds are decent for each team. The only thing to keep in mind with a bet of this nature is that you won’t know if you won until next February.
